Charlotte Hornets Get Lakers Guard, Tennessee Star

Dalton Knecht is on the move in the middle of her rookie NBA season.

Los Angeles Lakers traded Tennessee -Basketball Product to Charlotte Hornets early Thursday morning, according to a report from Espns Shams Charania.

Knecht was elected No. 17 In total in 2024 NBA draft of Lakers. He is an average of 9.4 points and 3.1 rebounds in 20.7 minutes while shooting 35.8% on 3-Pointers.

The 6-Foot-6 Guard has five 20-point matches, including a 24-point game with five 3-3-pointer against Philadelphia on January 28. He scored 37 points against Utah on November 19 and hit nine 3 -Pointers to tie an NBA -Rockie record and scored 22 straight points.

Knecht was named Sec Player of the Year and was a consensus first team of all-American in his lonely season in Tennessee. He is the highest thrown player under Vols coach Rick Barnes.

Charania reported that Knecht was part of a Lakers package that included Cam Reddish, a non-protected first round and a 2030 pick swap for Charlotte Center Mark Williams.

Lakers recently traded starting center Anthony Davis to Dallas Mavericks in exchange for Luka Doncic in a blockbuster deal. Lakers used Knecht as a centerpiece to fill the center square in the agreement with Charlotte.

Former Tennessee star Grant Williams is with Hornets, but is sidelined after tipping his ACL in November.

Knecht was the poster child for the transfer portal as he jumped to Tennessee in his last season. He average 21.7 points overall, 25.5 points in SEC games, after transferring from northern Colorado.

Thornton, Colorado, native ended with 780 points, the second largest in a single season in the program history. Knecht had 13 25-point games, eight 30-point games, six 35-point games and a 40-point game.

He started his career at Northeastern Junior College in Colorado.
