Elon Musk says Doge will dig into FAA technology and make security upgrades

Elon Musk’s team will now dig into the country’s aviation system, Trump announced on Wednesday.

Mr. Musk on social media platform X said President Trump’s cost -saving group, the Department of Government Efficiency, will work to “make quick security upgrades to the air traffic management system.”

“Just a few days ago, FAA’s primary aviation safety system failed for several hours!” Mr. Musk wrote and referred to the Federal Aviation Administration.

Mr. Musk’s comments came after a system used by few to send real-time critical security warnings to pilots, experienced a shutdown last weekend, just days after a midair collision between an army helicopter and an American Airlines jet in Ronald Reagan National Airport in Washington .

It also comes when Mr. Musk has disturbed huge parts of the federal government, shocked the workforce and triggered protests.

The aviation system, known as notam, map for notice to air tasks, is an alarm system that FAA uses to share information about dangers in the air or on the ground with airlines, such as runway closures and airspace restrictions. However, a back-up system kicked in and officers without disturbance.

This weekend’s power outage was the second time that the system went down in recent years. In January 2023, a system interruption founded thousands of departure flights across the country for about 90 minutes, which led to widespread delays.

It is unclear what the group’s plans are to improve the nation’s aviation infrastructure and security system.

Sean Duffy, the Transport Secretary, confirmed on the social media platform X that he had spoken to the Department of Government Efficiency Team about this new effort but gave no insight into the discussion.

Neither the White House nor the Transport Department immediately responded to a request for comment.
