VINTRY is mixed tonight, weekend storm becomes more likely

VINTRY is mixed tonight, weekend storm becomes more likely

We track two systems that are likely to be mon to all travel plans you have over the next several days. The first one brings areas with light snow and freezes drip this afternoon in the evening. Sneak cumulation will be lightweight, but roads and surfaces will probably be smooth later today through this evening. The second system looks more and more likely and will have the potential to bring more inches of snow from Friday night to Saturday. Then it gets cold with more chances of off-and-on light snow through next week.

Light snow mixes with freezing drizzle at times through this evening. Snowfall amounts are light, but roads and surfaces can be smooth. This system brings sneak cumulation to parts of northern and northeastern Minnesota, especially along and north of I-94, where 2 to 3 or more inches of accumulation will be possible.

Thursday will mostly be sunny and windy. Apart from the wind, we get a break from the active weather on Thursday and Friday.

By Friday night, our next system will move into the region and it looks more and more likely that this will be an effective winter weather event. National Weather Service is already talking about the possibility of issue Winter Storm -watches and/or warnings. Currently, I think that locations along and north of I-90 will see at least 3 inches of snow, with a heavier cut of 4 to 6 inches or more possible somewhere in central and southern Minnesota. Our latest forecast and model runs suggest that the heavier ties are likely to create a place along and north of the US Highway 14. However, we are still a few days out, so that can still change. Stay with us for updates. As the system starts to develop, we will have a much better idea of the potential track that will help us narrow down where the heavier 4 to 6+ inches of snow will be. The system goes out from west to east late Saturday afternoon to Saturday night.

As we enter next week, our long-term models suggest that it will be cold with more off-and-on chances of light snow. At the moment, Snow doesn’t seem to be significant, but we all know that can change. Stay with us – The weather team looks closely and wants updates along the way.
