George Mason University does not resign on students who would not share the bathroom with men

CV News Feed // George Mason University (GMU) canceled orders without contact given to students who expressed concern over men who had access to women’s bathrooms after the alliance defending Freedom (ADF) defended the college.

According to To ADF, the organization defended two months ago on behalf of third -year lawyer student Selene Cerankosky and Maria Arcara.

Cerankosky and Arcara were in a private group chat with several other students as a student suggested adding feminine hygiene products to men’s bathrooms. During the conversation, the legal students expressed concern about men who gained access to women’s toilets.

Two weeks later, GMU issued orders on Cerankosky and Arcara to prevent them from contacting the student who suggested feminine products in men’s bathrooms. There was no previous explanation or warning of the decision.

ADF sued GMU for illegal enforcement of its title IX and Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Sexual Harassment -Politics against Cerankosky and Arcara. The school agreed to cancel the order without contact and update its policies to stop weapons protective title IX against free-speech rights.

The school pays Cerankosky and Arcara $ 15,000 in compensation and lawyer.

“Universities – especially Law Schools – must be places for debate and discussion, and GMU has shown its commitment to this ideal with the settlement, it reached with Selene and Maria,” said ADF senior adviser Tyson Langhofer, director of the ADF Center for Academic Freedom.

Langhofer later added, “ADF hopes these new measures will allow the university to continue to support students, maintain a safe environment and promote the robust exchange of ideas that are the cornerstone of a college experience. Selene, Mary and their fellow students can now feel more confident that their fundamental freedoms of speech and religion will be respected on campus. “
