Syracuse turns red Friday to raise awareness of women’s greatest health threat

Friday is National Wear Red Day and people are encouraged to wear red to get attention to heart disease.

Heart disease is the greatest killer for men and women.

“Cardiovascular disease is unfairly targeted at women. Too long, women have been omitted by research, testing, treatment and funding,” said Kristy Smorol, marketing and communications director of the National Heart Association.

Smorol emerged today in central New York on Friday morning and told the importance of knowing numbers such as blood pressure, cholesterol, blood sugar and BMI.

“The good news is (at) heart disease is 80 percent preventable with healthy lifestyle habits that can help control these numbers.
