Raptors Handle Davion Mitchell for Heat to PJ Tucker, Second Rounds, Cash

The Raptors seems to get involved in multi-team Jimmy Butler Blockbuster after all.

Is initially assumed to be involved in the agreement as a facilitator to take on Kyle AndersonToronto acquires instead veteran forward PJ Tuckerthat was sent from Utah to Miami as part of the Butler Trading, Shams Charania reports from ESPN (Twitter -Link).

According to Charania, Raptors will also get another round choice and cash from Heat In swap that sends guard Davion Mitchell to Miami. The second round is Lakers’ 2026 election, per. Blake Murphy from Sportsnet.ca (Twitter -Link).

While Charania is not explicitly saying that, this deal is likely to be folded within the larger framework for the butler trade, with tucker that goes directly from Jazz to Toronto in the Multi-Team Agreement.

It is an economically motivated maneuver for HEAT that will take on Mitchell’s $ 6.45 mm Expiring contract instead of Tuckers $ 11.54 mm Expiring Agreement. It allows them to appear under the first tax apron with about $ 1.96 mm, according to ESPNS Bobby Marks adding (via Twitter) That Miami remains over the luxury tax line with about $ 2.8 mm.

It’s back to see if the heat will hang on Mitchell or if they have additional features coming. The earlier ninth overall choice is a talented defender who has a limited offensive game. In 44 games (22 starts) for raptors this season he average he 6.3 points and 4.6 assists in 24.5 minutes per year. Night with one .434/.359/.676 shoot line.

Mitchell is eligible for limited free agency at the end of the season, though he seems unlikely to receive a qualifying offer.

Tucker has a certain history in Toronto – he was drafted by the franchise in 2006 and spent his rookie season with Raptors, then he was traded back to the team in 2017. However, his third stint with the organization is likely to be a short one as he is a Virtual lock to be purchased or released directly.

Toronto still had a good amount of respiratory room under the luxury tax line after agreeing to acquire Brandon Ingram From New Orleans why the club is willing to accommodate a pay dump. The second round of elections and cash they get in the agreement, incentred raptors to swap Mitchell off Tucker and his more expensive contract.

Raptors could use Mitchell’s salary for matching purposes to finish trade or be able to use his pristine exception at the intermediate level to absorb tuckers in -depth wages. In the latter scenario, the team would create a new trade exception worth Mitchell’s outgoing $ 6.45 mm salary.
