At least one tornado touches down under Ky storms. Other areas that experience flooding

National Weather Service has confirmed at least one tornado touched Kentucky from Thursday morning’s strong storms.

The tornado touched in northeastern Hart County and reached the highest wind speeds of 95 miles per hour and classified it as an EF-1 twister. NWS said preliminary information suggests they were on earth for less than a mile.

A storm damage examination is expected in Hart, Jackson, Oowsley and Rockcastle counties on Thursday, according to NWS.

A roof was reported by a stable on Red Hill Road in Rockcastle County and abandoned trees between Sexton’s Creek and Iceland City in Oowsley County, according to NWS.

Several rounds of intense storms with heavy rainfall moved through the state overnight Wednesday to Thursday, according to NWS. The strongest storms were expected to hit areas south of western Kentucky and Bluegrass Parkways.

Several counties in eastern and south-central Kentucky, including Fayette County, were under a tornadour during the storm. Some areas were in a tornado warning as the storms were well -end, but these advisers have since expired.

Government Andy Beshear urged people to keep up to date with the forecast.

“Severe weather continues to move through southern Kentucky this morning with thunderstorms and the chance of tornadoes,” Beshear said in a post on X. “Stay weather conscious and stay safe, Kentucky!”

Power cuts in the state

Much of the southeastern kentucky was under a Flooding advice Thursday morning due to heavy rain from the storm. NWS said the advisory expiry at 1 p.m. 11:45

“The heavy rain has ended. Urban and small stream floods are no longer expected to pose a threat. Continue to follow remaining road closures, ”NWS said.
