Wizards acquire veteran and draft assets in exchange for promising young guard

Washington Wizards were expected to remain active before Thursday’s NBA trading deadline, and so far they have stayed true to these expectations.

General Manager Will Dawkins kicked things out on Thursday by entering into an agreement to land another veteran presence in exchange for a young playmaker who has shown flash throughout his time in Washington this year.

The wizards agreed to trade Jared Butler and four seconds round elections (2027, 2028, two in 2030) to Philadelphia 76ers for Reggie Jackson and a 2026 first round election.

The first round that Washington receives will the least favorable of the first round that Philly holds from La Clippers, Oklahoma City Thunder and Houston Rockets.

This step marks the third deadline agreement made by the wizards in the last 24 hours. Before the agreement to send Butler to the 76s, Washington has treated Kyle Kuzma and Patrick Baldwin Jr. to an eastern conference athlete in Milwaukee Bucks and Jonas Valanciunas to Sacramento Kings.

When the wizards continue to review their young list and send veterans to essentially bring in more, it will be interesting to see what Washington does over the next five hours when the field requires what players they still have left to offer.

Nevertheless, here is a look at the young player that Washington gave up in the deal.

More about Jared Butler

Jared Butler ended his time in Washington an average of 6.9 points, 2.6 assists and 1.3 rebounds in 32 games this season. Although the statistics are not flashy, the 24-year-old guard composed several impressive performances during the season, especially when Brian Keefe’s team treated a rough stretch of injuries over the past few months.

Ironically, Butler’s best game in his career came less than a month ago against Sixers when he finished the game with 26 points, 7 assists and 4 rebounds while knocking down 11/19 field target attempts, including shooting 100% on all three of his attempts beyond the arch.

With the guides navigating in their future, it doubtful that Butler would ever have a chance to find a prominent role in Washington, especially considering the team’s loaded backcourt. Now he moves on to Philadelphia, where he could quickly find minutes considering that Sixers were inclined to give up a future choice of the first round in return.

The NBA trading deadline is Thursday at. 15.00 one.

Update: The wizards appear to redirect Jackson before the deadline. If no other trade presents itself, Jackson is likely to be waived.
