James Marsden says a ‘jury’ producer said show ‘possibly not for you’

James Marsden reflects on the challenges of filming Jury.

During a recent episode of DAX Shepards Armchair expert Podcast, Marsden, 51, opened to his experience filming Mockumentary and how it differs from his previous projects. When he explained that he was sometimes tempted to blow up his coverage to the modest Ronald Gladden, Marsden said he was warned about the difficulty of the false reality show.

“I remember I had this conversation with one of the producers who had also worked on BoratAll of Sacha (Baron Cohen) ‘s thing, ”the actor explained. “And he was like, ‘If you’re a really good guy, this might not be for you.’ And he didn’t say that directly on me, but it was like, this is hard how you navigate by getting the comedy that people actually want to see. Yes, it is at the expense of someone. The nature of the show is. ”

Through the eight episodes of the series, Gladden believed he was in a real case as a pre -treatment of a jury, while the rest of the characters were actors and comedians who improvised. Marsden shared that it was “the closest I have ever (to) didn’t act” while I was on the camera.

“I came in, there were scripts, but there was no dialogue really written because you don’t know what (Gladden) would say,” he explained. “You can set up certain scenarios and I thought the manuscripts were so f — ing ing funny, radiant writing.? ‘”

“The lines between reality and fiction are blurred,” he added.

When it was time to finally reveal that none of it was real, Marsden remembered and felt “nervous” to see the happy’s reaction.

“I was the most nervous when Ike (Barinholtz )’s father (Alan Barinholtz) turned to him and said, ‘This is all false,'” Marsden said. “And for a few seconds I saw his eyes a little dark and scared, because like a millisecond.”

“I hated it,” he continued. “And I already knew what to do and we all wanted to do was the storm box where he was sitting and just let him know,” yes, this is probably a lot to understand and take in and treat right now, but if you Wonder if all this was real, it was all real and we love you and love you. ‘The last thing I want to do is’ okay. It was fun. Cool. See you around. ” ‘

After they were wrapped, Marsden said he gave Gladden his phone number and told him to “hang out” sometime. The role crew even had a wrap party where they hoped to show Gladden how much they appreciated him.

“He’s perfect,” Marsden said. “(We wanted to) assure him that ‘yes, we took you on a trip, but you are a shining star in this great time and here’s what the show is about. It’s about you, my friend and all about you that people will love about you, we love you. ” ‘

Then he joked, “And it was a love party after that because I was really like, it will be an insult when we hold a check for a $ 150 or what he got paid.”
