Despite having a 2-0 first leg lead, Newcastle fans may have had concern that Arsenal overturns their advantage in search of much needed silverware.

However, this fear disappeared when Magpies dominated the fight on Tune side. Jacob Murphy put Newcastle ahead in the first half and the net a rebound from the post after impressive games from Alexander Isaac.

The website continued to push for another goal, even with the lead, while Arsenal’s defense seemed more and more unstable, highlighted by Raya’s mistake that led to the second goal.

Attempts to play from behind, Raya went directly to Declan Rice, who was immediately pressed by Newcastles High Press. Rice lost the ball to Fabian Schard’s hard tackle tackle and put Anthony Gordon a light finish.

Carragher condemned Raya’s choice on X and wrote: “Keepers must be banned from playing these passports to midfielders.”

Gary Neville also criticized Arsenal’s defenders Gabriel and William Saliba and accused them of being left “on toast” by Isaac’s performance.

“It’s about Isaac. He’s destroying Arsenal-Midtbacks. Look at him against Saliba; he (Saliba) thinks he’s got ahead and he pops it around the corner,” Neville said.

“What strike is it and a little luck because the passport is not in him and it then falls to Murphy. But he has Gabriel and Saliba on toast.”

After full time, Arteta admitted that the defeat was a painful in the midst of the risk of another trophy season at Emirates Stadium.

He said, “Physically, we were tired. We’ve played so many games. Emotionally, it was also a very different game to believe right there in the end that we could do it.

“We had so many expectations to believe that we could turn it around. The game started in the first action with the goal and it was denied. We had two moments we did not capitalize and the game changed.

“It’s tough. We knew the difficulty of the task from (first leg) result in London. Now we have to look forward, first and foremost it becomes painful. When we are in Dubai, we are recharging. “
