Mark Williams acquired in Lakers -handel with Hornets involving Dalton Knecht & Cam Reddish

At the forefront of Thursday’s NBA trading deadline, Los Angeles Lakers announced that they have acquired Mark Williams from Charlotte Hornets to Dalton Knecht, Cam Reddish, a 2030 Pick swap and 2031 unprotected first round.

The move came on the heels of Lakers, who finished a blockbuster trade in which he swapped Anthony Davis to Luka Doncic. Obviously, it left lacquer with a void in the middle of the position that Williams will help fill.

Shortly after reports came out, Williams took to social media To respond to being traded to Lakers:

Williams is a 23-year-old previous choice of first round, prepared 15 in 2022 out of Duke. Laker’s head coach JJ Redick mentored him a little in his time with Blue Devils.

In 22 competitions (19 starts) for Hornets this season, Williams has an average of 16.0 points, 9.8 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.2 blocks per year. Match.

While Williams is a nice fit with Doncic and the rest of the Lakers program list, he did not come at a cheap price with the team that gave up Knecht, Reddish and a valuable draft choice and swap.

Lakers ejected Knecht 17. Overall out of Tennessee this last summer and was really high on the rooky, recently named Rising Stars Challenge.

Knecht has been a striped shooting game in his first NBA season, but in 48 games (12 starts) for Lakers he was an average of 9.4 points and 3.1 rebounds while shooting 35.8% from 3-point range.

Reddish was a minimum wage that Lakers included to make the trade work financial. He has played in 31 games this season (eight starts) and average 3.3 points and 2.0 rebounds. Since this is a two-for-a-trading, Lakers has an open guard to use in the buyout market.

Mark Williams Fits Rob Pelinka’s description of Ideal Center for Lakers

At Luka Doncic’s initial press conference, Rob Pelinka made it clear that Lakers was looking to add a center. He discussed what type of player they are looking for and the description fits Mark Williams pretty well.

“Versatility, mobility, a vertical lob threat, I think it’s a key to the distance Luka likes to play. Competitive. I think these are some of the central things there. These players are hard to find. But we perform the task that is ahead of us. We’ll find a way. “

Pelinka actually found a way, and now Williams will pair with Doncic to initiate the next era of Laker’s basketball.
