This year’s NBA trading deadline has been one of the most controversial and eventful we have ever witnessed. Both Lakers and Warriors happen to be very involved in everything that has gone down in the last few days. Therefore, it is enough to say that Thursday’s meeting between these two will not be like the typical Lakers-Warriors game we are used to.

First, Golden State was going to be the second night of a back-to-back-bare traded for Jimmy Butler, which means he, Andrew Wiggins, Kyle Anderson and Dennis Schròder won’t be seen wearing the Warriors jersey tomorrow. The same goes for lakers who do not have Luka Dončić.

The crazy part about all this is that the trade deadline expires only six hours before this game, which means there is a possibility that more players do not fit both sides. Lakers has just acquired Mark Williams, while Warriors are looking to add more depth. There is also a possibility that both teams do nothing on Thursday. So right now everything remains uncertain for both sides.

That said, this is where one of LeBron James’ favorite quotes, “Keep the most important thing that the most important” should apply. Lakers have to take advantage of a Discombulated Warriors team that will not only be incomplete, but also struggle to play high-level basketball. What I mean by that is, even though they have won six of their last 10 before Wednesday’s games, they don’t really play with momentum, energy and power that the purple and gold have in the last two weeks.

As always, this game will focus on LeBron and Steph, but it would be nice if Lakers’ role the players also did it about themselves, as they have done in the last few matches.

In their last matchup, Warriors were led by Wiggins ’20 points and Brandin Podziemski’s 17. Lakers did a good job of limiting Curry to only 13 points and not in the second half, 4-17 shoot.

Granted, Max Christie had a lot to do with it. It might be ideal if Jarred Vanderbilt and Dorian Finney-Smith take the curry assignment. What matters is that Lakers does not allow dubs to get hot from the perimeter because it is the only way they can beat LA, considering the talent difference between both teams.

Expect Warriors to be better defensively with Daymond Green that didn’t play last game due to a left calf strain. They are likely to increase Buddy Hield, Quinten Post, Gui Santos and Kevon Looney’s minutes if no one is traded before the deadline.

At the expense of jinxing this, I would like to think that Lakers are currently more talented than Warriors and is in a really good groove. It should translate in this one and help them beat their Pacific Division Nemesis at home.

Hopefully Los Angeles expands their winning line to four games and will remain undefeated against Dubs this season. Let’s see if they can do it on Thursday, right after the trade deadline.

Notes and updates

  • For Lakers’ Damage Report, LeBron James (left foot injury handling) and Gabe Vincent (left knee contusion) are likely.
  • Luka Dončić (left calf stem), Maxi Kleber (right foot break) and Christian Wood (left knee surgery recovery) are out.
  • Warriors do not release an injury report until just hours before the game, but Trayce Jackson-Davis (right knee soreness), Jonathan Kuminga (right ankle stun) and Moses Moody (bilateral low back enlargement) did not play against jazz.
  • We will be live on playing for this game, so be sure to join!
