Twin Cities in Wait In More Inches of Weekend Snow

After January closed with record -breaking heat, the other shoe is falling.

On a windy Thursday, much colder air started and set the stage for significant snowfall Friday night to Saturday for the subway and much of central Minnesota, National Weather Service said. From Thursday afternoon, however, predictions from snowfall have begun to tend to tend to down from the original forecasts.

According to National Weather Service Twin Cities, snow is expected to start in western Minnesota already on Friday night and reach out to eastern Minnesota before early Saturday morning. Snow is expected to subside later in the day with the rapid nature of the storms, which is likely to limit the potential for higher end snow hotels.

Meteorologists said Thursday afternoon that they expect 4 to 7 inches of snow, a little less than the 5 to 8 inches of snow, originally sent to fall along a line from Granite Falls to Twin Cities.

The potential weekend drop was Weather Service to issue his first Winter Storm Watch to Metro this year.

“Expect disruptions in daily life,” the weather service said. “Closing and disturbances to infrastructure may occur.”

In recent online forecast discussions, forecasters say: “Don’t be surprised to see reductions in subsequent snowfall forecasts.” It is also possible that the area with the highest snowflows can be less than previously depicted.

The watch is in effect from late Friday to Saturday afternoon from Morris to Willmar to the Metro and South to Rochester, Mankato and La Crosse, Wis.
