The search for Cassandra Durham – 9 & 10 News

The family of Cassandra Durham has been trying to find out what happened to her ever since she was last seen in Baltimore back in July 1987.

There is strong evidence that she found her way to northern Michigan, but where she went for it is a mystery.

Michael Durham says his daughter Cassandra was typically 19 years old in the summer of 1987.

“She moved up here with me and worked in a store for me for over a year. She liked her job. She did a really good job. She dated more people. She had this habit, she liked good guys and evil guys, ”Michael remembered.

Michael says the last time he saw her was the weekend of July 18. On Monday he got a call from the yogurt shop where Cassandra worked.

“He had called my store and told my help he needed to get in touch with me. So I can’t remember if he called me or if they told me he left a message with the one he was talking to in the store that Cassie had disappeared with the bank deposit from Friday and Saturday.

So we drove back to Baltimore immediately, went to her apartment, which was completely empty. Just a trunk, a pair of clothes, a note.

That note reads: Dear Dad, will you ever forgive me? I have trouble and I don’t know when I will come back I will call and write God know that I love you!

A few days later, Michael received another letter to read partially: I don’t really know what to say, I don’t really have an explanation of what I did, I just did.

Then, in September, Michael got a phone call from Cassandra.

She told her father she was in Roscommon and visited her boyfriend’s grandparents.

“She said she was upset. She had already done it. She couldn’t get out of it. She should try to get everything fixed out and she would be back, but that I should not try to find her, contact her or do something else.

So you know you didn’t know. I certainly did not know, the day when she called me at that time, I would never talk to her again. I assumed what was going on, somehow we get a decision, ”said Michael.

Michael continued to hope for this decision until 2019, when he reported Cassandra’s disappearance of law enforcement.

The State Police Detective Sergeant Brett Nichols is now looking for the investigation.

He admits it is a challenging matter.

“She has very well been a place in the Baltimore area and was very vivid and she can still be. And in 1987 you know there was no internet, there was no social media. So if you are knowledgeable and you can stay away from all the electronic devices in that amount of time, then you know it would be pretty easy to stay away from the web if you start it early, ”said Nichols .

Nichols says he and others have conducted a series of interviews, including with Cassandra’s girlfriend,

Everyone has been cooperative.

“You know we just don’t know what happened. There are all kinds of theories that are thrown around. And then we really can’t call someone a suspect. All we can do is say you know this is the last person we know it was with her who talked to her. She is not in trouble with anything. Her family wants to be in touch with her very much. I don’t know if he told you but her father has kept the same phone number he had in the house in 1987. He has kept it through all this time. Just in case Cassandra will call, ”Nichols said.

“If you have made your own decision. That’s fine. I just want to know you’re alive and good, ”Michael said.
