Rams Pass Rusher Jared Verse named 2024 AP NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year

Verse joined Rams via the 19th everywhere choice of a draft of class that skewed so strongly against the offensive side of the ball that a defender was not taken before the 15th election (Indianapolis’ Laiatu Latu). As a result, verses slipped to the back half of the first round, where the frame was happy to pour him up.

Verse hit the earth running like a rookie and recorded a sack in his first NFL game. He ended with 4.5 sacks, but more importantly ranked like fourth among all rushers in Quarterback pressure (76) per day. The next gener unique and was one of only eight non-linebackers to finish 2024 with 40-plus running stops. He saved his best in the end. In Rams’ Wild-Card victory over 15-2 Vikings, he turned a fumble after a touchdown. Then he consistently caused destruction in the divisional round, recorded four QB pressure and logged two sacks in Rams’ losses to any NFC champion Eagles, luring Jeers from a hostile amount of road throughout the game for his pre-game comments.

Verse was the first of two Florida State defenders chosen by Rams with their first two elections, welcome defensive tackle and former seminole’s teammate, fishing, to Los Angeles one day after answering the call from Rams. With verses, fishing, Kobie Turner and Bobby Brown, which fills the front four, Rams has successfully rebuilt their defensive line after Aaron Donald’s retirement and is placed in a bright future in the trenches.

Verse was a powerful Kantrusher in Florida State, who played an important role in a seminole team that ended the 2023 season undefeated and won the Atlantic Coast conference. He was inexplicably transferred to two other Kantrushers (Latu, Minnesota’s Dallas Turner) in the draft. He proved these choices wrong with his game in 2024 and has some new hardware to show for it.
