Much has changed for Los Angeles Lakers in recent days, but one thing has been the same.

LeBron James is still a wonder.

The king led his team to a 120-112 victory over the Golden State Warriors on Thursday and became the oldest player in the NBA story to surpass 40 points in a game in the process. He finished with 42 points, 17 rebounds and eight assists in an excellent overall performance.

“What do I think? That I’m old,” James told journalists. “That’s what I think. I need a glass of wine and some sleep, that’s the first thing I think about.”

It was a full circle moment for the future Hall of Famer, who is also the youngest player in the league story to reach the 40-point mark in a game from when he scored 41 in 19 years and 88 days old in March 2004 as a member of Cleveland Cavaliers .

At 40 years and 38 days old, he surpassed Michael Jordan’s former field of 40 years and four days old. His Airness scored 43 points at that age in February 2003 as a member of Washington Wizards.

“I think that with LeBron we have run out of words and superlatives and descriptions to kind of catching what he is doing at this stage of his career and at this age,” said Laker’s head coach JJ Redick. “It’s still remarkable, it really does. And he really led us tonight.”

Stephen Curry was not the only three-point fieldsman in the building on Thursday when James went 6-of-9 from deep and brought the crowd to the feet with a logo triple:

He also dominated the boards, which was important for a Los Angeles team that no longer has Anthony Davis after moving him in the trade for Luka Dončić. It will eventually have Big Man Mark Williams to help in the rebounding department after his aggressive approach to the trade deadline, but he was not yet available for Thursday’s competition.

It was James’ third double-double in the last four games and brought his three-point percentage up to 52.4 in February three competitions.

This type of outside will be even more important when Dončić takes the floor next to him, given the defensive attention that the five-time all-star will draw. Playing James Off-Ball more in the one-to-punch will keep the 40-year-old healthier for the playoffs.

And it’s an endgame where Lakers suddenly looks like true threats with the addition of Dončić and Williams to go with the red -hot James. If the king plays like he did on Thursday, there is no team that the purple and gold cannot beat.
