Acquisition of Jimmy Butler At the Trade deadline, the Golden State Warriors cost any future they had left

Enough has enough about the amazing blockbuster trading that involved Mavericks and Lakers who sent Luka Doncic to Los Angeles and Anthony Davis to Dallas.

But somehow one of the biggest offers at the trade deadline – and perhaps the most expected – has been overlooked.

And for good reason.

The heat treated Jimmy Butler to the Golden State Warriors on Wednesday night and marked the end of a drawn feud between the sides. Miami suspended Butler three times before sending him on his way, with the six-time all-Star, who played only five games since the beginning of 2025.

Fans in the Bay area suddenly spit over the thought of butler who went with Stephen Curry and Daymond Green. Should we really consider this as “Big Three?”

Another aging star was the last thing the Golden State needed. Butler is 35, Curry is 36 and Green is 34, leaving Warriors with a very small window to actually make some noise in a stacked Western conference.

Golden State is not winning a ring with this group. It would have hurt to see Warrior’s perfectly clean house and run what was left of a one-off dynasty, but the club should have bitten the ball now. A reconstruction comes for the Golden State, and all Butler’s arrival is to delay it.

Building around Jonathan Kuminga, 22 and 21-year-old Brandin Podziemski should have been Warriors’ main focus at the deadline. It meant storing draft choices and/or young talent that could have helped these two flourish, while also bringing respectable veterans to act as mentors.

Few teachers are better than curry but I’m not sure any franchise would benefit from its future leaders who follow in the footsteps of butler who have been notorious to force himself out of almost every city he ever has Played in, and Green, one of the biggest warm heads that the league has seen this century.

No one should be afraid of Golden State this season, especially Warriors’ competition in the West. Lakers obviously got significantly better by bringing in Doncic and Mark Williams. San Antonio Spurs have that very well could be the brightest future at the conference after Adding De’Aaron Fox to supplement a young core Heading of Victor Wembanyama. Dallas may even be able to turn some heads. After all, it has Davis and Kyrie Irving. Not a bad duo in any way.

Future drafts will also not be Golden State’s Saving Grace. When it comes to choosing the first round, Warriors have none this year and only one in 2026, 2027, 2028 and 2029. They are also without a first round in 2030.

Golden State should have begun to enter into its future. Instead, Warriors hopes on one last cheers with Butler, but it shouldn’t take long for them to realize that there’s no such thing.
