Florida Lt. Gov. Nuñez is expected to be appointed temporary FIU president, sources say

Miami-Dade County, Fla. – Florida International University’s Board of Trustees is ready to hold a special meeting on Friday to discuss the appointment of a new president with reports indicating that Prime Minister Jeanette Nuñez may be appointed temporary president.

Nuñez, a Miami native with strong ties to FIU, has not confirmed the reports, but sources told Local 10’s Glenna Milberg that she could step into the role and at the same time resign from her position as lieutenant governor.

The current FIU President Kenneth Jessel, whose contract runs through the end of the year, performed with the Florida government Ron Desantis at a press conference on Wednesday, but did not comment on the leadership transition.
