Luke Clanton chases clips, touring cards, but just comes short at 2025 WM Phoenix Open

His Eagle putt at 15 looked good and traced. But his ball stopped on the edge, a rotation from tumbling in. Still he made birdie to get to even couples. After a pair of 16, Clanton drove his ball to the front of the par-4 17th, tiled on and made another birdie. It made him 1 during the week. He still needed another birdie to get to 2 below and get on the right side of the cut.

A 345-yard drive on the final hole left him 110 meters out. Then he hit his third to 20 feet. After dimensioning Birdie Putt, he couldn’t convert, his putt was left and stayed out of the cup. Clanton then covered his face with his hands, an option lost.

It is inevitable that he wants to secure the 20th point and he can accept his tour card after the end of his junior season, but Clanton’s late day drama gave Friday’s round some extra intrigue.
