Donald Trump says he fires members of the Kennedy Center, and names himself chairman

Donald Trump on Friday declared his intention to take over the management of the Kennedy Center for Performing Arts in DC and to start the current board and chairman.

“In my direction, we have to make the Kennedy Center in Washington DC, great again. I have decided to immediately end several people from the board, including the chairman who does not share our vision for a golden age in art and culture, ”the president wrote on his own social media platform Truth Social.

He added that the “fantastic” new chairman will be none other than himself.

“Just last year contained the Kennedy Center Drag Shows, which specifically targeted our youth – this will stop. The Kennedy Center is an American jewel and must reflect the brightest stars on its stage from our entire nation. For the Kennedy Center, the best has not yet come!, ”He wrote.

Some of the drag shows that Trump seemed to refer to were “Broadway drag brunch” and “Bertha: grateful features.”

David Rubenstein is the current chairman of the center and was set to keep the position through until 2026.

Among the board members, whom Trump intends to replace, two have been appointed by former president Biden: disposable White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre and adviser Mike Donilon.

“The Kennedy Center has not received any formal messages from the White House about what you have reported,” Eileen Andrews, the center’s vice president of PR – said The Atlantic Oceanthat first reported this story.

During his first term, Trump did not attend the center’s annual galas. In 2017, when Enter’s Honorees included legendary producer Norman Lear. Trump and First Lady chose not to attend.

“The president and first lady have decided not to participate in this year’s activities to allow the Honorians to celebrate without any political distraction,” the White House said at the time.
