Road herds prepared for winter mixing that hits the Pittsburgh area Saturday

The heaviest freezing rain is expected northeast of Pittsburgh and in Laurel Highlands. The winter mix is ​​expected to start against the middle/late afternoon hours on Saturday and continue up to midnight on Sunday.

It’s already been a tough winter, but Lori Musto with Penndot said they have “plenty of” salt supplies.

Both Penndot, Allegheny County and the city of Pittsburgh say staff are ready and that crews will treat roads if necessary.
