Is Trump, Musk that defeat social security? Alleged text sparks concerns

More users of social media claimed they received a text message from Democrats and said President Donald Trump and Doge Chief Elon Musk is DeFunding Social Security. Neither the White House nor the Department of Government Efficiency has made an official statement yet. However, Trump allegedly discussed his tax plans with House GOP leaders on Thursday, including a proposal to end taxes on social security services.

“Just got a text from the Democratic Party that Elon & Maga plans to DeFund Social Security. I know this is a lie. Tell me so @elonmusk @RealdonaldTrump to make sure this lie has not been sent to everyone, ”a person claimed on X, platform previously known as Twitter.

“Now they will reject Social Security! There will be a housing crisis if it happens. I know I couldn’t stay in my home without it. They don’t seem to realize it’s people’s only income,” added another.

This comes as a new bill introduced by Sens Roger Marshall and Marsha Blackburn, suggested major changes in social security tax. The legislation aims to eliminate double taxation of social security benefits. If adopted, millions of pensioners could be exempted from federal taxes on their social security income.

According to the Social Security Administration (SSA), the estimated average monthly pensions for social security for January 2025 $ 1,976 – making it the primary source of income for millions in the United States.
