Trump Administration promises to Rehire Doge Treasury Department -Officer who withdrew over racist positions

One day after an employee of the Treasury Department is affiliated with Elon Musk’s Doge cost-saving effort, withdrew after a Wall Street Journal report on his racist social media posts, the Trump administration has promised to reinstate the employee.

Musk, billionaire CEO of Tesla and X, who leads the newly created Department of Government Efficiency, posted on X Friday, “He will be brought back.”

Vice -President JD Vance expressed public support to the employee – Marko Elez – who was one of two government employees associated with Musk who gained access to sensitive taxpayer information.

“Here’s my view: I obviously disagree with some of Elez’s positions, but I don’t think stupid activity on social media should ruin a child’s life,” Vancile wrote.

When asked about the calls for Rehire Elez during a press conference on Friday, Trump said he agreed with Vances’ attitude to forgive and reintroduce the former employee of the Ministry of Finance.

Earlier Friday, Musk published a poll of X asking users of the platform whether Elez should be reintroduced, resulting in 78% of respondents supporting his return to the Department of Government Efficiency.

After a user commented on the need to “talk about the racist things,” Musk replied, “true.”

Elez retired from his position on Thursday after the Wall Street Journal revealed racist former social media posts by Elez.

“Just for the record I was racist before it was cool,” Elez said in a post from July according to Wall Street Journal -Article.

“Normalize Indian hatred,” the account wrote as well as “You couldn’t pay me to marry outside my ethnicity.”

ABC News has not independently verified the social media posts. A DOGE representative did not respond to a request for comment. ABC reached out to Elez, who did not immediately answer.

Before his resignation, Elez was in the middle of the Trump administration’s legal struggle for DODE to access sensitive taxpayer data.

Elez was employed by the Ministry of Finance as a “specialist” according to the Department of Justice. According to the conditions of a consent order signed this week, Elez was one of the two people associated with the Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency, which was given “Read only” access to sensitive taxpayer information from the Treasury.

Before joining the federal government last month, Elez worked for two of Musk’s private companies – SpaceX and X.
