Burgess: We will go as far as we can in the cup

Urban defender Cameron Burgess expects a tough challenge as Blues travels to Coventry City in the FA Cup fourth round, but says there is no reason why they cannot emulate the hosts’ race for the last stages last season.

Sky Blues reached the semi-finals of the world famous competition in the previous campaign and lost only with penalties to any winners Manchester United after an exciting 3-3 draw at Wembley Stadium.

The city’s head to the Coventry Building Society Arena this weekend looking to avoid a third straight exit on the fourth round scene after being beaten by Maidtone United, which Coventry beat in the following round last season.

Burgess referred to Town’s quieter quiet battle plan in the Premier League this season as one of the main reasons he feels it is important for blues to enjoy the extra games that an FA Cup race would bring.

“We’ve gone from last season with a lot of games to this season that don’t have so many, so we’ll go as far as we can in this tournament and we feel like it with the team we have and it’s What we want to try to do, ”he said.

“Coventry would be the exact same thing they did last year and deserved it, they were a good team then and are a good team now and showing it in recent weeks in the league.

“I think it will be a really good game and certainly not one to take easy. It will be a hard game and we expect it for sure. “

The city seems to avoid a fifth straight defeat after losing their last four matches in the Premier League when they see them fall into the relegation zone and three points that have gone from security.

On the question of a result at Coventry, could lead some momentum into next weekend’s ligature to Aston Villa, Burgess said: “In terms of prestance, we have shown that we can carry a few good performances, which leads to a bit of momentum.

“In terms of results, it’s a little difficult to say because we’ve proven this season that you don’t know where your winner or points are coming from-it can be against the so-called form teams in the league or bigger teams in the league, or it may be against teams , there is at the other end of the table, not in good shape.

“So results are a little difficult to say, but notions are where our focus is and if we can build speed in performances that will stand in good condition for Aston Villa.”

He added: “It is a new group, we have made some changes this season in both summer and January. Getting into a tough league and making changes will not always be easy.

“At the same time, the quality we have in the dressing room leaves us without excuses on that front. It’s up to us to perform, we know enough of what we’re doing now, and the players we have in the building will be enough to win games, no matter who it’s against.

“It’s up to us to insert the performance and implement the game plan on the day, and that’s what we try and do.”

A trip to Coventry brings lots of happy memories back for Burgess and Blues, Kieran McKenna’s side, who won 2-1 who last April to move to the brim of promotion to the Premier League.

Burgess, who hit the winning target on the famous Tuesday night, remembered the structure of the clash that led the city to the top flight.

The 29-year-old said: “It was a busy time for me personally when it was around the time my second son was born, so it was special times for it. It was also a busy period for football, it was a busy ending to the season, and there was a lot of structure against the game and an exciting end to the season.

“I was nervous for the right reasons, but also more excited. When we went into the game, we knew we could do something special, apparently it turned out, which is nice to look back on. It was exciting to get into the game and get stuck in.

“The procedure was the same as it had been all season – stick to the process and stick to what we do. We didn’t change anything all season in terms of our thinking that went into the game, so it was a coincidence of doing what we know we can and take the game at 100 percent and go to it to try to get the victory. “

On its fifth and most famous blues goal, Burgess added: “At that time it was a special moment. In the emotions of the game, we felt that we had control in the first half of the game and that it should go 1-1 was a bit of a sicker.

“Continuing to push showed the spirit we got in the group, fortunately it fell to one of us, and I was grateful that it was me and I was able to push the ball in the back of the net. It was a fantastic win in the end.

“Not my best goal in terms of quality, but probably in terms of importance. It was a massive moment and a big step in the right direction. It was one of the many moments during the season that helped us get to the place we are today. “

The scene on the full-time whistle was cheering among the 2,500 away supporters in West Midlands, where the blues team achieved a result similar to the scale of Barnsley in the League One-Promotion Season a year earlier.

After reflecting on the support and festivities inside the dressing room, Burgess said: “Go back to Barnsley One and Coventry, it’s probably from the fans’ point of view of a sigh of relief that we had gotten so big go closer and everything played out to be in our hands that enters the last season match.

“It was extremely important, but they were all during the season, it’s just a nice part of the journey and one to look back on with fond memories.

“It was a good moment to celebrate with the fans and enjoy what they were obviously traveling in their numbers and were in good voice all night.

“To enjoy it in the dressing room and celebrate for what only felt like a few minutes before the attention turned to the Huddersfield game. The job wasn’t done, we broke down as soon as we left the dressing room. “

Great scenes at the end of the COV game last year. The kind of thing we all go to the fight for.

When I go for the amount of changes … and a number that has been fighting at the Premier League level that plays today, I would say that we are not taking this compat so seriously. We are not Liverpool, Arsenal or Man City with a lot of strength in depth.
