Leyton Orient 1-2 Manchester City: Jamie Donley Scores FA Cup Wonder Goals

The history books say Leyton Orient led their exciting FA Cup fourth round with Premier League champions Manchester City for 40 minutes due to a Stefan goal in Stefan Ortega.

Forget it.

To everyone who is lucky enough to be there to witness it – a tie man city who was recovering to win 2-1 – Leyton Orient scored thanks to a Wonder Strike from Jamie Donley.

It was the Tottenham loan who grabbed the loose ball after the city’s midfielder Nico Gonzalez got the ball taken off him just inside the visitors half. It was Donley who discovered Ortega from his line and performed quite a brilliant 50-yard chip sailing over the city’s goalkeeper.

Yes, the ball hit the bar and only crossed the line because it hit Ortega as the German could not regain his balance after trying to save the first rescue. That was Donley’s goal.

“It’s a shame that it’s gone down as its own goal,” said Leyton Orient Boss Richie Wellens. “It’s not deserving and I’m sure Ortega doesn’t want it. It’s a thing to see it, that’s another execution.”

Despite the result, the goal is in the FA Cup folklore.

A number of experienced former top -level professionals certainly talked about the effort, as if Donley has scored it.

“That’s an absolutely remarkable goal,” said ex-arsenal defender Martin Keown at today’s match. “It’s the strike of a life. To even think about shooting from there – wow.”

“What place,” Chris Sutton excited on BBC Radio 5 Live. “What story. It is absolutely sensational.

“It will go down as its own goal, but it’s one of the biggest FA Cup goals.”

But how did it feel to actually do it?

“I know I hit the goal well,” Donley said. “I knew it fell nicely for me.

“I saw him from his line and fortunately it went in. It would have been much nicer if we won, but it was a good moment.”

Donley had previously scored five goals this season. In status or artistic impression, no one can compare with this one.

Even city manager Pep Guardiola while making sure what he thought was a clear mistake on his debutant Gonzalez of $ 50 million. The perceived violation now has its participation in Tuesday’s Champions League-play-off first leg in doubt, was full of admiration.

“What a goal,” he said. “What a great shot – the quality, the technique, the speed, the ball of the ball.

“When you admit this goal, you just congratulate Donley. He is an incredibly left -footed player and he made a fantastic goal.”
