Former Buffalo Bill’s head coach Dick Jouron goes away

Former Buffalo Bill’s main coach Dick Jouron died Saturday morning, the bills advertised today. Jauron was 74 years old.

A native in Peoria, Il, Jouron was hired as the 14th head coach of the Buffalo Bills story on January 23, 2006. He replaced Mike Mularkey, who had withdrawn after the end of the 2005 season.

Jauron coached the bills for just over three seasons when he was released by the team after a 41-17 loss at Tennessee Titans on November 15, 2009. Until Sean McDermott exceeded the milestone, Jouron was the only head coach who was at the helm of the bills in More than three seasons after the retirement of the Hall of Fame coach Marv Levy, who happened to be the general manager of Jaouron as coach for the bills.

Jaouron had a decorated gaming career in college and in the NFL. He was a prominent race back on Yale, who transported 515 times in 2,947 yards and 27 touchdowns over three years, all of whom ended up in the choice of first team All-ivy League. He was a first team of All-American in 1972, his last college season.

Jauron was selected in the fourth round of 1973 NFL draft of Detroit LionsBut he was also drafted as a shortstop of St. Louis Cardinals In the 25th round of 1973 MLB draft. He chose to play football and had a fantastic professional career as a security in the NFL. He played five years with the lions and three years with Cincinnati Bengalsthat withdraws after the NFL season 1980. In 100 career games, Jouron had 25 intercepts, four sacks, 15 fumble recovery and two defensive touchdowns. He was number two in voting for AP This year’s rookie in 1973 and he made his only career Pro Bowl In 1974.

Jauron began his coaching career with a position in Bills’ staff and served as a defensive backs coach in 1985 under head coach Hank Bullough. Jauron replaced another well -known name, Pete Carroll, in this position.

He left the bills to act as defensive backs trainer for Green Bay Packers In 1986 had a position he held throughout the 1994 season. When his colleague in Green Bay, Tom Coughlin became the first head coach of Jacksonville Jaguars In 1995, Jaouron Jags’ initial defensive coordinator. He held this position through the 1998 season, so he was on the staff when Jaguars handed Bills their first playoff loss at Rich Stadium, a 30-27 defeat that was also the last Game of Hall of Fame Quarterback Jim Kelly’s career.

After three successful seasons like Jaguar’s defense coordinator, Jouron was hired as the main coach of Chicago BearsA position he held from 1999-2003. Jauron led The Bears to the playoffs in 2001 and led the team to a 13-3 record, an NFC Central Division title and AP Coach of the Year Honor for Jauron.

That was the highlight of his tenure with the bears when he surrounded the magic season with records over 6-10 in 1999, 5-11 in 2000, 4-12 in 2002 and 7-9 in 2003. He was let go after the 2003 season.

Jaouron was hired as Detroit Lions’ defensive coordinator in 2004 and served in the position throughout the 2005 season. After the team dismissed head coach Steve Mariucci, Jauron was the temporary header, led Lions to a 1-4 finish for their season. He was not hired as a principal coach, which led him to Buffalo.

During his accounting period, the man whom Rich Eisen called “The Cagey Dick Jouron” had.

Losman had his best season as a professional when Jaouron was the head coach in 2006, and Edwards had his best season as a professional during Jaouron’s term of office in 2008. In all three of his full seasons, Bills ended 7-9.
