Chelsea were runners 110 years ago and knocked finalists three times in a row between 2020 and 2022. Still, our name was engraved on the famous trophy for the first time in 1970 and the eighth apartment in 2018.

Blues have lost only two of our previous 27-round ties, and both (in 2011 and 2015) came on Stamford Bridge. Our latest defeat at this time was inflicted by Bristol City – then two levels during blues – in January 1990.

After a five-match winless race between 2021 and 2023, three draw, two defeats, Chelsea hopes to rack five consecutive wins against Brighton on all fronts.

Team news

Nicolas Jackson led the blues attack on Monday night against West Ham United, but was withdrawn early in the second period due to a hamstring injury. Marc Guiu was his replacement, and although the Spanish ended the game, he had to be helped down the tunnel by assistant coach Willy Caballero full time.

Maresca was asked at her press conference before the battle for the duo and explained that Guiu will be absent for our match on the south coast.

‘Unfortunately, Marc is a bad injury,’ said the blues head coach. ‘Nico is better and he could be (suitable for the game). But it can also be a risk (playing him) so we get to see. But it doesn’t look like a long injury.

‘Marc could be (a long injury). We are still waiting to know the scope, but it doesn’t look like a short injury it looks long. Exactly how long we don’t know yet. Probably weeks. ‘

Defenders Wesley Fofana and Benoit Badiashile are long -term absent, and jumps also confirmed that midfielder Romeo Lavia remains unavailable. The midfielder has been sidelined since our 2-2 draw against Bournemouth last month.

‘Romeo is still in the process of returning,’ the Chelsea chief explained. ‘But it’s still a long way to go.’

The story

This is the third apartment Chelsea and Brighton have been paired in the FA Cup – although the first since 1973 – and blues finished every draw with 10 men.

The two clubs had never met before a third round match on January 14, 1933 on the Division Three Side’s former home Goldstone Ground. A spiritual error meant that the gulls did not receive an exception to preliminary rounds and they had already navigated six knockout ribbons.

Early blows for Chelsea, however, Arthur Attwood saw open the scoring for the hosts and Blues’ Jackie Crawford Crocked and hobby on the wing. The underparent Londoners went further back before they withdrew a goal back through George Barber for a 2-1 defeat.

Blues beat Brighton after a round of four repetitions on the way to the final in 1967. The first game was drawn despite Bobby Tambling’s fifth minute opener, Albion equalized shortly after Johnny Boyle was sent out for a shot kick.

Marksmanship of Tambling decided the Replay at the Bridge. He hit twice before half-time, then Boyle put on a tap-in for Tony Hateley, and Allan Young hit our fourth with no response.

Violence flared again at the third round -meeting on the south coast in January 1973. Ron Harris was dismissed for the only time in his career to beat Eddie Spearritt with 18 minutes left. Then, 10 minutes later, Albion’s George Ley ended him to squeezing up to Peter Osgood after “doing” Tommy Baldwin.

Ossie’s previous contribution, however, affected the most. He scored both Chelsea goals on each side of half time to decide the result 2-0 to our advantage.

Chelsea and Brighton have never previously collided at the Amex Stadium in the FA Cup.

Our Premier League meeting at Stamford Bridge in September ended in a 4-2 win for the hosts. Cole Palmer claimed all four goals in Enzo Maresca’s first win in the Home League.

The Londons have won our last four fixtures against Albion on all fronts – and have lost only once in 11 visits to the Sussex Club.

Our seven wins in Brighton across all competitions have each been constructed by another manager: Dave Sexton, John Neal, Bobby Campbell, Antonio Conte, Maurizio Sarri, Frank Lampard and Mauricio Pochettino, who register a victory.
