Major Country Music Awards Show Canceled in 2025 for ‘Reimagining’

Country Music Television Music Awards will not take place in 2025 along with several other award exhibitions, as leaders look for ways to “Reimagine” and “Optimize” the Show. According to the Hollywood Reporter, CMT’s parent company, Paramount announced the decision in a memo sent to the employees.

The memo was sent by Bruce Gillmer, Paramount’s President of Music, Music Talent, Programming and Events, Media Network and Chief Contact Manager for Paramount+. Gillmer indicated that the CMT Music Awards and other paused award exhibitions are still part of the company’s plans, but gave no insight into when they could return.

“We want to share some news. We pause a few events in 2025 as we seem to reimagine and optimize our event slate in the future, ”says part of the note. “These include MTV EMAs, MTV Miaws, Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards in Mexico and CMT Music Awards.”

The move is not expected to affect MTV Video Music Awards or Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards.

The CMT Music Awards have been held every year since 2002, which typically takes place this spring. For the past three years, the ceremony has taken place in April. The voting for awards is conducted exclusively by fans who last year chose Jelly Roll’s “Need A Favor” as “Video of the Year.”
