Anthony Davis understands disturbed mavs -fans, eyes insurance

Dallas – For the first time in his career, Anthony Davis’ arrival in a franchise has not resulted in festivities in the city.

In Dallas, the deal that brought the 10th time all-star to Mavericks resulted in heartache and anger. Days later, the fan base remains in shocked disbelief that 25-year-old superstar Luka Doncic was blinded by the Blockbuster deal just months after he brought Mavericks to the NBA final.

“I understand it,” Davis said Friday about the fans’ indignation. “Obviously it’s a business and I’ll get who Luka was to this franchise, to the city. I never want to trivialize it – just how I know what I meant for the city la, so I’m not surprised by that fans’ Reaction and the city’s reaction, but it’s my job to come in and play basketball and do what to do and give fans hope and assurance of why (GM) Nico (Harrison) brought me hit.

A protest is planned outside the American Airlines Center before Davis debuts in Mavericks on Saturday afternoon’s home game against Houston Rockets. Billboards, which criticize Harrison and the team’s new ownership group, is planned around the arena after a Gofundme account raised more than $ 40,000.

“I don’t know how tomorrow will be as far as the reaction, but I can’t control it,” Davis said. “What I can control, it’s going and just winning basketball games and helping the team do what I can. But at the end of the day I will give back city life.”

Harrison, who has accepted the only responsibility for the decision to trade Doncic, did not attend Friday’s news conference to introduce Davis with Max Christie and Frem Caleb Martin, who was acquired in a separate trade.

General Manager quoted a desire to upgrade Dallas ‘defense and improve Mavericks’ culture as among the reasons he acted when he met with a smaller group of media on Sunday, hours after the agreement was completed.

Sources told ESPN that there will be an increased security presence in the American Airlines Center on Saturday due to threats received by Harrison, some of whom have included racing pits. Harrison has also hired personal security in the wake of the trade, the sources say.

Harrison managed to keep his discussions with Los Angeles Laker’s General Manager Rob Pelinka Private before accepting the deal and did not negotiate with other teams. After stating that it was in Dallas’ best interest in trading Doncic, Harrison Davis targeted the return package.

Harrison, a long -time Nike director, before being hired as Mavericks’ general manager in 2021, has had a close relationship with Davis since the star was a teenager. Mavericks coach Jason Kidd, a Lakers assistant coach, as Davis helped lead Los Angeles to the 2019-20 championship, also has a strong bond with the big man.

“Obviously, I understand who Luka is and what he is able to do and what he has already done for our games,” said Davis, a five-time all-defensive marking that is an average of 25, 7 points, 11.9 rebounds and 2.1 blocks per Match this season this season. “He is a phenomenal player who becomes one of the best to ever play the basketball match.

“But having Nico trade for me just shows her belief in me and what I can do on the floor. It’s my job to produce every night and make Mav’s nation believe it too. So I’m excited about the challenge.”
