Size 7.6 earthquakes in the Caribbean trigger a tsunami advice for Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands

An earthquake with a size of 7.6 has taken place 20 miles north of Honduras, according to the USGS.

The earthquake took place at. 18.23 Eastern time Saturday, reported the USGS.

Based on all available data, there is a tsunami threat towards Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands, as oscillations in the sea level and strong ocean currents can be a danger along coasts, beaches, in ports and in coastal waters.

According to the US National Tsunami Warning Center, the earliest estimated time that fluctuations in dangerous sea level and strong ocean currents can begin in Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands are at. 20.48 Eastern time on Saturday.

The generation of tsunami waves has not yet been confirmed and NTWC monitors to evaluate the tsunami threat.

Residents of Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands are advisable to move out of the water, out of the beach and away from ports, marinas, bays and inlets and not go to land to observe the tsunami.
