7.5-Magnitude Earthquake Strikes Caribbean Sea, Tsunami Warning Issued

A strong earthquake with a size of at least 7.5 hit north of Honduras in the Caribbean Sea on Saturday, several international research centers said.

The German Research Center for Geovindials reported that the earthquake was at a depth of 10 km (6.21 miles) after he originally attached the earthquake to a size of 6.89.

The Geological Survey of the United States (USGS) said the earthquake had a size of 7.6 with a depth of 10 km.

It was unclear if there was any movement or damage to land.

This marks the largest earthquake in the region since 2021, when an earthquake of 7.2 size hit Haiti, according to the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration

The US Tsunami warning system said a tsunami warning was in effect after the Caribbean earthquake and north of Honduras, adding that no tsunami was expected on the American Atlantic or Gulf coast.

The US Tsunami warning system also issued advisers to Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands after the earthquake.
