Once a year, on a Sunday in the winter, Millions put in to see two teams roam around the field as they beam, tumble and pants. At any time, a new scent could tempt a player away from the end zone. Of course, we are talking about the puppy bowl.

For two decades, the popular alternative to the NFLS Super Bowl has spread attention to the millions of pets in the United States who need adoption.

Last year, Over 12 million viewers Set for the puppy bowl – double audience on the initial telecast. To compare, the recent Grammy Awards drew about 15 million viewers.

For the untrent human being, the puppy bowl may look as speechless sweetness. But there are basic rules that control the annual event. Here’s what to know when Team Ruff and Team Fluff Face Off on Sunday in front of the human Super Bowl.

How to look at

The puppy bowl will be released on Sunday, which starts at. 14 one, on Animal Planet.

Rules control ruff-and-tummy

Not just every puppy becomes the draft of the big game. The corner tour list must pass a combine harvester and skill test before hitting Gridiron.

The puppy bowl follows loosely the basic gameplay of human football. Points, sanctions and even overtime are all part of the rulebook, if necessary. Pun-heavy calls include “unnecessary ruffness” and “Pass Inter-Fur-is.”

Touchdowns scores when dogs pull a chewing toy into both end zone.

Dan Schachner, who has held the position of Puppy Bowl -Judge since 2012, enforce the rules.

Team Ruff is looking to pick up the “Lombarky” trophy “Lombarky” -ofte an oversized lavish toy-after its 72-69 victory last year. MVP – “most valuable puppy” – is also crowned.

Schachner was not available to talk about this year’s game when NPR reached out. But he said to NPR last year, “We reward everything,” good dog or bad.

The underdog award goes to the worst priesting dog in the game “Maybe a dog sitting on the sidelines and sleeping the whole game, but is still sweet,” the referee said.

Puppy Bowl broadcast is not live. This year’s program was shot a few months ago in five days.

Admission and editing the event allows for a cleaner game without all the disruptive bathroom breaks.

When the dogs need to do their business, Schachner told People In a recent interviewThe cameras stop rolling, and like a “Nascar Pit Crew”, puppy handguards come in to clean up the mess.

Can you bet on the puppy bowl?

State regulations typically prohibit betting on events that have already happened.

“I’ve never seen bet on the puppy bowl in any legal market,” Doug Greenberg, who writes about sports betting for Espn. told USA Today. “This is a pre-wallpaper TV program. It’s a known result. It’s never allowed in sports betting.”

Still, Schachner says Bettors will flood his direct messages looking for insight into a game that is neither live nor involves any apparent strategy.

“It’s funny that people just ask up, ‘Who looks good for MVP? Does Smoosh have a shot? Has Team Fluff a chance to win?'” The judge told the business. “I have to delete each one of them. Because people somewhere make plug -bet on the puppy bowl.”

A TV option service

The event is intended to encourage people to adopt rescue animals in need of an eternal home. This year’s broadcast plays a record 142 rescue puppies from dozens of shelters across the United States, according to Warner Bros. Discovery.

Smaller breeds take the course in the first quarter and the set -up is mixed to play the larger races in the fourth quarter.

Because the event is pre -recorded, many of the dogs you see in the field have already been adopted. At the end of the three -hour telecast, all competitors are likely to have made it out of their shelters.

“I love the end of the puppy bowl because it means that all dogs have been adopted and that is the real truth,” Schachner told People. “We have a 100% adoption rate every year.”
