Krewe de Riviere rolls tomorrow!

Monroe, La. (KNOE) – Krewe de riviere parade Rolls Saturday, February 8 at 1 p.m. 17! About 1,500 people move through the streets of West Monroe and Monroe during the parade.

At any given time during the park’s week, the cave buzzes with activity, loading pallets of pearls and toys on each float.

King Kris Kelley and Queen Kiama Johnson showed some of their throws on the morning show!

This year the route is different, they move on down Louisville and end at Oliver Road in Monroe. This is where they stop throwing. The parade starts on N 7th Street in West Monroe.

They have toys, ornaments, stuffed animals, moon pies, decorated rubber ducks and pearls! Over a million throws come from these floats under the parade.

Every year, Krewe builds new floats from scratch to add their fleet. Of course, each is decorated for the theme ‘out of this world’. You will see foreigners, men in black, Star Wars Cantina Bar, a scene from Jetsons and more.

Monroe Moccasins is this year’s Grand Marshall! The team runs on a float and throws some special hockey theme beads.

Back again is the world famous Grambling State University Band! You will see them in front of the king’s float.

And Louisiana Lunachicks lead the Queen’s Float.

When we look at Krewe’s future, it’s not just about the parade.

“We bought the old Holsum Bakery Building a few years ago, and we will transform the front part of the building into the neutral land and have music and art teaching after the school for the children in the area,” says Heather Moore, vice president of Krewe de Riviere.
