Jake Sanderson has been called to fit his country.

Ottawa Senators defender was appointed replacement for Quinn Hughes from Vancouver Canucks On Team USA on 4 Nations Face-off.

Sanderson was originally sent up to the tournament, but answered the call from GM Bill Guerin for the tournament, which was to get started on Wednesday in Montreal.

Hughes was a late scratch after consultation with Vancouver Management on Sunday.

Sanderson, 22, has five goals and 35 points in 55 games this season. He started slowly but has picked up his game and has been on the American radar screen in the past month.

He was disappointed that he was not named the American team in the first place, but his game was not at that level at the time. He gets a chance to play a big role under American coach Mike Sullivan of Pittsburgh Penguins and his staff.

Sanderson will now be one of four players from the senators participating in the event.

He joins Captain Brady Tkachuk on the American team. Ottawa goalkeeper Linus Ullmark fits Team Sweden, and defends Nikolas Mantinpalo was a late addition to Team Finland on Sunday morning.
