Super Bowl MVP: Jalen Hurts Wins Award after leading Eagles’ Dominance of Chiefs

Jalen Hurts lost his starting job in college. He was not a draft of the first round. Even after leading his team to a Super Bowl, there were questions how much he could give the Philadelphia Eagles compared to the NFL’s elite quarterbacks.

Sunday night, in an emphatic win of 40-22 over Kansas City Chiefs on the Super Bowl Lix, he got his moment. As well as his own personal trophy.

Hurts was named the Super Bowl MVP at 2025 after a 17-of-21 passing the performance with 221 yards, two touchdowns and a eavesdropping, plus 72 rushing yards and a touchdown on earth.

This rushing total represents a Super Bowl record as the brand is evil on the Super Bowl LVII two years ago. His rushing touchdown was also his fourth in a Super Bowl that moved him to a behind Emmitt Smith for the most in the big game.

However, it was his arm who gave exclamation marks, with a 46-yard deep ball for college teammate Devonta Smith to give Philadelphia a 34-0 lead.

On Sunday, Hurts’ second strong performance represented a Super Bowl after he almost led Eagles to victory against Chief’s two seasons earlier. This one will of course feel sweeter.

Jordan Brand had an ad for his athlete ready to go as soon as the game was over, with tagline “Love, Hurts.”

Hurts has been in the football light since his true first year in Alabama when he took over the starting job under Nick Saban after a game. As he sat in the driver’s seat on the machine, which was crimson tide, Hurt’s Sec offensive player of the year won as he led Alabama to an undefeated season until it lost college Football Playoff Championship Game to Clemsson.

Hurts returned as the start of the next season and again led the tide to the national championship game until he was at the wrong end of the most famous mid-game personnel change in college football history. When Tua Tagovailoa took over, Hurts played in his shadow until he transferred to Oklahoma.

Saban always talked a lot about how Hurts succeeded, and Hurts reacted to NFL concerns about his passing ability with a faster campaign that made him runner-up for Heisman Trophy behind Joe Burrow.

However, the NFL team was still skeptical of Hurts’ arm as he lasted until the 53rd of the 2020 NFL draft. He landed with Eagles and again earned a starting job in his first year with a team.

Since then, Hurts has become an important part of Eagles’ identity. He has had some friction with Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni, but his passersby has risen almost every NFL season he has played, up to his career year in 2024.

Like his first year in Alabama, Hurts was tasked with operating a scary machine, this time an Eagles list that looked more and more like the best in the NFL as the season went on. Philadelphia won 15 of his last 16 games this season, and this time Hurts got his team over the line with a championship that is fully his.
