Malik Monk vs. Kyrie Irving

After a short stint at home, Sacramento Kings (26-26) Go back out on the road to turn toward the new look Dallas Mavericks (28-25).

While the MAVs may be a new look team after Luka Dončić trade, they will be without Anthony Davis services in the foreseeable future, leaving them brief Monday night against Kings.

With that in mind, this again feels like a must-win game for Kings, especially as Mavericks is the team directly in front of them in the position. For the matchup of the game, we turn to one of the few players at Mavs who could beat Kings on their own.

Seasonal statistics:

As trade and Anthony Davis’ injury steal all the headlines, Kyrie Irving continues to quietly have another big season of basketball.

Irving should get the full star cover from Kings tonight as he could carry the team alone to victory. Sacramento has shown the propensity for Blitz Star players and forces role players to beat them, and without any clear number two star on Mavericks, I expect them to make life as hard as possible for the changing guard.

For Kings, Malik Monk has struggled with his efficiency in the last four matches. He average 17.5 points, but at 39.7% from the field and 29.2% from beyond the arch.

Monk gets his first shot at the full-time guard role, so it’s not a surprise that there has been an adjustment period. He has never been the most effective player, but has always compensated for it with great spectacles and his passing.

Monk, who gets his shooting percentage back, will be the key for kings to run down the stretch as the autumn period clings.

State Provisions:

Malik Monk: 19 points, 8 ast, 3 ropes, 1 stl, 1 blk

KYRIE IRVING: 17 PTS, 11 AST, 4 ROB, 2 STLS, 0 BLK
