Eastbound Highway closed in New Jersey – NBC New York

A New Jersey motorway was closed for hours on Monday for repairs on the roadway after a possible sink hole appeared.

The I-80 Easterning was shut down in the Morris County Town of Wharon as NJDOT herds work to repair a depression that arose, officials’ side. Thousands of drivers in the area were detoured at exit 34, after a depression was seen in the middle of I-80 at about 1 p.m. 06.45 Monday.

Crews have not yet determined the cause of the depression. Njdot said that I-80 eastbound will remain closed so far.

Njdot advised drivers to take exit 28 to Route 46 Eastern or Route 10 East Ryging instead of waiting for the detour at Exit 34.

A number of cars could be seen on North Main Street in Wharon, waiting to get back on the highway after being detected by it. Chopper 4 showed the traffic that was backed up on Route 80 for Miles in Morris County.

A local business tried to take advantage of traffic backup: POP’s Bagel store in Wharon offered any size coffee for 80 cents, while I-80 was closed in the area.

A massive swallowing hole at the size of a four-story building appeared in the same area in December as a result of an abandoned mineshaft. It took four days to fix. The crews are set to work around the clock to repair the new swallowing hole, although it was not immediately clear how long the corrections would take.
