Lakers sign C Alex Len after Mark Williams Trade Collaps

Los Angeles Lakers has their new center.

Lakers entered into an agreement to sign free agent center Alex Len on Tuesday afternoon, the team announced. Len was initially to sign with Pacers, but he turned the course after Lakers’ trade for Mark Williams fell through in recent days.

Len will now give Lakers a much needed depth at the position. The team traded Anthony Davis for Dallas Mavericks star Luka Dončić ahead of the deadline, which left them with a big hole down. Jaxson Hayes is the team’s only other center on their list. Lakers waived Christian Wood to make room for Len.

Lakers also tried to bring Williams to the deadline. They entered into an agreement to send Rookie Dalton Knecht and Cam Reddish along with a few drafts of Williams. However, this agreement was lifted on Saturday after Williams could not pass the Lakers’ physical.

Williams has missed almost 60% of possible games due to various injuries over his three seasons with Hornets, and he has played in just 23 games this season while dealing with a foot injury. It is unclear why Williams failed the physical, but it reportedly showed more questions. Hornets is now working to contest that failed physically.

Len has an average of 1.4 points and 1.8 rebounds in about seven minutes per day. Fight this season with Sacramento Kings. The 31-year-old was traded at Washington Wizards earlier this month, but was then waived. It paved the way for him to sign elsewhere.

While Williams would have been a better get, and a better lob threat with Dončić, Len will undoubtedly give Laker’s considerable size down so they don’t have to rely on petty tactics for the rest of the season. Lakers rolled over Utah Jazz in Dončić’s debut Monday night, which marked their sixth straight victory and pushed them to 32-19 a year. They take the jazz again Wednesday night in their last match before the All-Star break.
