Vintry Mix moves through Wednesday Morning

A wintry mix of rain, freezing rain, sleet and snow will pass through the state early Wednesday morning. Although we do not look at a larger snow or ice storm, there will still be an impact on large parts of the state with icy spots on roads right in time to commuting Wednesday morning.

The system responsible for the mixed rainfall is a quick mover. Most of us should see precipitation begin shortly after midnight tonight and then come to an end later in the morning. On Wednesday afternoon, the system should already be well against our east with colder and drier air coming in behind it.

Due to the influences we will see from the snow and ice, winter weather advice has been sent until noon Wednesday due to the impact of the journey.

This is a good look at the general timing of rainfall. Most of what we see falls very early in the morning with drips later in the morning into the early afternoon. At noon, most of us will be dry with some lingering influences that are still possible on the area’s roads.

This is a messy prognosis with most of the area that sees a mixture of rain, freezing rain, gossip and snow. Northern Oklahoma will see a mostly light snow with a mixture that happens there. Southern Oklahoma will have a cold rain. In the area of rain and mix we could even hear rumbles of thunder!

Below is the model approximately the timing and coverage of precipitation:

Snowfall -Total and Istotals are below. With these amounts we do not expect power cuts, but influence should be expected to be expected. The morning commuting is affected much more than the evening commuting.

The highest amounts of snow will be over the northern Oklahoma with the chance that ice cream looks best just south of there.

As the amounts are on the lower end of the scale, the effects should not be greater, but we will definitely see some problems on the roads. The morning must be disadvantaged than the evening commuting.

There may still be some problems for the evening commuting, but we think the colder air coming in will help dry things out nicely. Whatever not dries out, one could frozen in the morning.

Because of the effects, we already know that we have many school closures. Check out the ongoing list here.

Much colder air is expected behind the system. Wind refrigerations could fall to almost 0 by Thursday morning. While not clearly right now, there may be some extra school closures due to the cold.
