‘Big game on many fronts’

game

  • Michigan is looking to avenge his previous loss and win land in the conference position.
  • Purdue leads the Big Ten conference with half a play over Michigan and Michigan State.
  • The game is expected to be close to where Michigan has a chance to win if they can limit revenue and get contributions from multiple players.

Through 23 games in the dusty May -æra Michigan Basketball has seen somewhere between good and really Good on 22 apartments.

It’s a great batting percentage, but it still leaves a game that Wolverines will really forget. When Wolverines were down in West Lafayette, Indiana, on January 24, they were down with double before the first media -hourout, which was just the beginning. They drew by 20 points or more than the other half in it, which was a 91-64 run away victory of Purdue.

Wouldn’t you know that they No. 7 Boilermakers (19-5, 11-2 Big Ten) is on the tap for the return flight for what is a top-20 showdown with No. 17 Michigan (18-5, 10- 10 – 2 Big Ten) Tuesday night at Crisler Center (19:00, Peacock).

“We don’t use the word revenge, but we have to play much better basketball,” May said Monday morning about the mentality that went into the biggest game of the season so far. “We need to make some adjustments schematically, but more importantly our mindset. It was a tough night.

“They deserved to win how they did it, and I thought we deserved the result we got that night.”

Since that night, UM has played four times and won all four competitions in a tight way, each coming after three or four points. Michigan, who has drawn for just more than 13 combined minutes during the winning row and never with more than five points.

That said, UM has led each team with decent margins-eight points against Penn State (52-44), nine points against Rutgers (30-21), 14 points against Oregon (64-50) and 18 points vs. Indiana (43-25) —tellig in each of these games, the opponent returned to either tie or took the lead in the second half.

Now Um is on a mission to come back more than just its pride against Purdue.

“Obviously everyone knows how that game went,” said Star Tip Danny Wolf Postgame after UM’s 70-67 win vs. Iu. “We are lucky that we get to play them twice this year. … We are really happy with this opportunity to get that game back and solidify where we are in the position. “

It is the second aspect of this matchup that adds only the significant efforts. Boilermakers currently leads the Big Ten with only half a play over both the UM and Michigan state (which still has two head-to-head matchups back) and already took their first matchup against Wolverines.

A victory would give them a 1½ match line over Michigan plus a draw with seasonal sweep, which would effectively make the lead 2½ games. On the flip side, an UM victory would vault May’s team in at least one tie for the first (MSU also plays on Tuesday) with a small edge over Boilermakers.

“This is a very big game on many fronts,” May said. “None. 1 to show that we can compete with one of the best teams in the country. And yes, we want a championship but we can’t win the championship (Tuesday). We have to continue to improve and continue to remain the course.

“(Former Michigan) Coach (John) Beilein gave me a quote for a while about dreaming big but focusing small. I think that’s well said … We definitely focus on adjustments and nuances, how we can improve, how to stay healthy, how to stay healthy this time of year, but we certainly dream big. “

In addition, all the main characters are the same from the first time.

UM’s job is to find a way to slow down Purdue’s star -point guard Braden Smith, who tormented them at the first meeting to the melody of 24 points, 10 assists, seven rebounds and four steals. Also, watch Trey Kaufman-Renn-Michigan held him to 15 last time, his only game in the last six, scoring fewer than 23 points.

It is obvious to say that Michigan has to play a better game, but it starts with the Point Guard Tre Donaldson, who had a career high six revenue in the first meeting that went with a season-low an assist. His thoughts about the re -fight?

“No comments,” he said Postgame at IU.

The only real difference is that Wolverines have flip-floped Rubin Jones and Roddy Gayle Jr. in the starting lineup and as a sixth man. Gayle has struggled to find his flow in the offense with Wolf, Donaldson and Vladislav Goldin, all of which were so strong. May compared it to Bradley Beal who came out of the bench with Suns, vs. Start with Kevin Durant and Devin Booker – and the hope is that it will make him go.

Purdue comes out of a national championship appearance and was chosen as the league’s favorite supply. UM was projected more in the middle of the package, and while some thought the NCAA tournament could be in their future, few expected this game to have these bets.

Ready or not, here it is. And the thing is, UM is ready. After the first four losses came with four points or fewer, UM has figured out how to turn these tight competitions into victories. This time against Boilermakers, UM has to keep it within a marked distance. That way it can beat.

“We are happy to see our growth,” May said. “That night did not really go to us much. Much went wrong. But Purdue caused most of it, so it becomes a hard game, but we are that we are happy to go out and compete. “

Forecast

Michigan has four wins in a row, but only one of them is against a tournament team. Purdue is not just a team after the season, it’s a Final Four competitor. Expect the best out of Donaldson and UM can contain both halves of area 51. But this game will come down to another. Maybe Tschetter or Nimari Burnett, maybe Gayle, maybe Jones, but someone has to step up. In the greatest moment of the season, UM is coming again. The choice: Michigan 81, Purdue 79.
