Winter storm aims at green land

Wednesday is a Weather Warn Day for large parts of the green country, including Tulsa. A mixed bag of winter weather will cause smooth roads all day.

A winter weather counseling is in effect Wednesday for Tulsa and for areas north of I-40, where the morning and evening commuting could be affected by smooth roads.

The storm arrives in the small hours on Wednesday morning and creates wet streets and possible icy conditions with temperatures near freezing.

The heaviest rainfall is expected just in time for the morning commuting, where short periods of heavy rain/gossip/snow (and even t-storms) will cause dangerous driving conditions due to slippery roads and low visibility.

If you are on your way out Wednesday morning after sunrise, there will still be a mixed bag of winter rainfall, including a few T-storms. Temperatures will be near freezing for the Tulsa Metro and create the threat to smooth roads.

Brown of rainfall will occur in the morning, but lingering snow bands will be possible throughout the afternoon as the wind rises and temperatures fall during freezing until Wednesday night.

Areas north of I-40 have the best chance of winter rainfall, while areas near the KS/OK border have the best chance of accumulation of snow/gossip.

After the storm, temperatures fall on Wednesday night, and Gusty Nord Wind creates wind coolers near zero in some areas.

Wednesday and Thursday are two of the coldest days of the winter season, but we get a short warm -up on Friday.

If your travels take you north of Oklahoma on Wednesday, you should be advised that the weather will be worse in these areas. Winter Storm warnings and advisers are in place for most of Kansas and Nebraska, Plus Missouri and Iowa.
