Brandywine School District And its teachers signed an appointment on Monday night after an almost year -long contract improvement.

The district, which is the fifth largest in the state, agreed to raise wages and protect working conditions for more than a thousand public school teachers and specialists.

“This is a huge victory for teachers and specialists here in Brandywine School District and everyone in Delaware who supports public education and union work,” said Brandywine Education Association President Steve Rulon, a chemistry -teacher in the district of

Brandywine School Board’s vote to approve a new 3-year contract with Bea on Monday came just hours after union members voted to ratify a preliminary agreement reached during the negotiations communicated by Delaware Public Employment Relations Board.

Teachers and specialists in Brandywine School District had worked under an expired contract since June 2024-one extension of their last three-year contract expired in 2023.

The two sides had not reached an agreement despite a very successful referendum in 2024 to help the district of recruiting and retaining teachers.

Brandywine’s teachers started picking out of school hours in early December.

“Public teachers in Delaware once again proved that we are willing to get up and fight to provide the best possible education for our students,” said Stephanie Ingram, president of it Delaware State Education Association. “You can’t give a good education
Without great teachers, and I am grateful to the great teachers of Brandywine School District who stood their reason until they got a labor that respects their dedication and their commitment to preparing all students in a lifetime of success. ”

Despite reaching a new work agreement with the district on Monday, an unreasonable work practice filed by Bea against Brandywine School Board president Ralph Ackerman after a confrontation on the poor lines is still pending for Delaware Public Employment Relations Board.

A hearing in this case is not yet planned.

Immediate efforts to reach Ackerman and the other board members for comment were not successful Tuesday.
