The young man looked in a glorious touch from the word go and remained effortless by Captain Rohit Sharma’s dismissal in just the other over laps. Alongside Virat Kohli (52)-which also made a much-needed return to race scoring-recovered Gill the Indian laps while also punishing the loose deliveries from England bowlers and reaching his century in 95 balls.

In a place he knows from the inside out, Gill showed his trademark fluent. Despite the early setback, he refused to have England gain control and counter -attack with a flurry of borders in the immediate overs after Rohit’s dismissal. His intention ensured that India never lost momentum when he and Kohli steadily built a strong foundation. Even after Kohli’s departure, Gill continued to dominate the bowling attack, unmatched by the extra responsibility.

The milestone also etched his name in the record books under his knock and became the fastest dough for 2500 ODD. He crushed Hashim Amla’s long-standing record and reached the landmark of only 50 matches-three fewer than the legendary South African.

This was also Gill’s third -consecutive half -century in the series and placed him in an elite club of fighters who have recorded the fifties in all three matches in a bilateral series. Still, the young man was not opening yet.

Gill eventually reached his century on his 95th delivery with a brilliant flick for a four against Mark Wood. However, the parties were muted when he took a trademark arch against the dressing room and recognized the crowd at the stadium.

With his century, he joined an elite list of fighters to have violated the three -digit brand in all three formats in a particular place. Interestingly, only four fighters have previously achieved the brag:

  • FAF you Plessis – Wanderers, Johannesburg
  • David Warner – Adelaide Oval
  • Babar Azam – National Stadium, Karachi
  • Quinton de Kock – SuperSport Park, Centurion
  • Shubman Gill – Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad

England chose to field

Jos Buttler won the thrown for the third equal time in the series, but chose to field in Ahmedabad. England failed to defend the target in both, the first and second ODDs.

India made three changes in XI, securing a series victory in Cuttack, with Washington Sundar, KoldeF Yadav and Arshdeep Singh, who played in the last ODDI. Varun Chakaravarthy was forced to miss the game due to a sore right calf, while Ravindra Jadeja and Mohammed Shami were rested.
