Forecasts say that a winter storm expected to sweep into Michigan on Wednesday afternoon could bring almost a foot of snow to some places-4-5 inches more than previously predicted.

Almost the entire lower peninsula is during a winter storm wall through Thursday. Road conditions could be dangerous, National Weather Service said Tuesday.

The latest estimates from NWS say that as much as 11 inches of snow could fall over a wide cut of Michigan as the storm ends on Thursday. Monday, estimates varied from 2-9 inches.

“There is still some uncertainty in snowfall amounts for the upcoming winter storm,” said NWS Grand Rapid’s Office.

The agency said the area from South Haven to Ludington and East to Mount Pleasant and South to Lansing should expect at least 3 inches of snow. Probably totals are much higher.

Hastings in southwestern Michigan will probably see 7 inches, while Grand Rapids, Lansing, Big Rapids, Muskegon and Kalamazoo will see at least 6 inches.

However, the weather service warned that it makes up in these areas could reach up to 11 inches by Thursday.

Residents must prepare for dangerous travel conditions on Wednesday night and Thursday morning and drive gently, the weather service advised.

“Snow can fall up to 1 inch per hour on Wednesday night, which slowly slows down the travel speeds and increases your chance of getting stuck in a slide-off,” the weather service said.

How much will that snow in southwest Michigan?

The storm is expected to trace northeast through Michigan as it moves out of Indiana.

Southwest Michigan, including Sturgis and Coldwater, is during a winter storm watch, the NWS office in Northern Indiana said.

The Benton Harbor area had been predicted to see 9 inches of snow; This total amount has been increased to as much as 11 inches, Weather Service said.

The Sturgis and the Coldwater area are expected to see up to 8 inches of snow from the storm.

Heights will be in the low 30s and 20s that fall to teens and single digits overnight.

How much will that snow in Detroit?

Southeast Michigan is during a winter storm wall, NWS office In White Lake said. Heavy snowfall Wednesday afternoon and overnight could bring 4-7 inches of snow.

The weather service said to expect at least one inch Wednesday in the Detroit area with another 5 inches before Thursday.

The region will be cold throughout the week, where heights in their 20s and 30s fall to low teens and 20s overnight stays.

How much snow will Port Huron and the thumb see?

Port Huron and the thumb region are under Winter Storm Watch through Thursday Morning, Detroit/Pontiac NWS office said.

Snowfall could reach up to 6 inches or more around Saginaw Bay and near the Huron lake, says NWS.

Along the Lake Michigan in Harbor Springs and the Petoskey areas, up to 6 inches of snow could fall on Wednesday to Thursday, the weather service said.

On the east side of the state, the area from Saginaw Bay Nord to Alpena has approx. 50% chance to see 8 inches of snow, the weather service says.

The Gaylord office said there is a high probability of at least 4 inches over most of northern Michigan.

“Dangerous for even dangerous journeys are sometimes possible, with the most widespread travel impacts coming late Wednesday to Thursday morning,” Weather Service said.

Everywhere in the region are heights in teens and 20s with low in teens and single digits that fall negatively in some areas.

How much is it expected to snow in West Michigan?

West Michigan is under a winter storm wall, Grand Rapid’s Office Said the NWS office.

The storm is likely to bring 3-6 inches of snow to the region on Wednesday to the beginning of Thursday, NWS said.

“Areas north of Muskegon and Big Rapids, including the Ludington area, can see half an inch to 2-inch snow this morning with a little expected elsewhere,” the weather service said. “Then between Wednesday afternoon and Thursday morning, several centimeters of snow are a fair effort for large parts of western and mid Michigan.

Cold will continue this week, with heights in 20s falling to 20s and teens overnight, NWS says.

How much snowfill falls in lansing?

The Mid-Michigan area could see snow collections reaching 3-6 inches, possibly up to 10 inches, says National Weather Service.

The weather service said 2 inches or more likely fall Wednesday with another 5 inches falling on Thursday.

Highs this week will be in 20s and fall to 20s and teens overnight.

How much snow does the top peninsula get?

Parts of the central and western upper peninsula were under a dangerous weather forecast on Tuesday, with light sneaker cumulations and temperatures overnight as low as minus 20 in some areas, Marquette NWS office said.

The region will see about an empty snow on Wednesday in Thursday.

Conditions will be freed during the week with heights in 20s, teens and single digits that fall to single -digit and negative low overnight, NWS said.

In SUULT STE. Marie, a dangerous weather forecast is in effect Tuesday with the accumulation of snow. Additional snow is expected on Wednesday, the NWS office said in Gaylord, with up to 2 inches of snow expected.

Heights will be in 20s and teens falling to teens, single digits and negatives overnight stays.
