Food and Drug Administration’s long -term food supply saga has now knocked on the gates in US retail chain stores Costco, Walmart, HEB, Kroger, Trader Joe’s and more. From February 7, the company was the alarm with “an abundance of caution” announcing the FDA that a manufacturing error had resulted in “slightly open” migratory tabs on the lids on the tuna products. The company revealed that the compromised integrity of the product seal risked food leaks or pollution with Clostridium botulinum, a bacterium that could trigger botulism.

What is botulism?

The disease can be rare, but it does not detract from its potentially life -threatening demand. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, a toxin made by Clostridium indicates botulinum and related bacteria – all naturally occurring in many places – the nerves of the body, which eventually causes difficulties in breathing, muscle paralysis and even death.

What should customers do if they already have the recalled products?

The confirmation that the recall did not affect other tri-union Seafoods products said the company that those who had purchased the recalled tuna boxes could receive a full refund after the retrieval kit and coupon for a replacement option.

Botulism is treated with antitoxin, which prevents the toxin from causing more damage. However, it cannot regret the negative damage already done by the toxin. Fortunately, no diseases have been reported in connection with the recalled items.
