  • A winter storm is expected to affect the journey in the Lansing area from Wednesday afternoon.
  • The total snowfall is expected to reach 4 to 8 inches, with the storm bottling of Thursday morning.

Lansing – Forecasts on Tuesday became more confident that a significant storm will affect the journey in West Michigan and the Lansing area that begins Wednesday afternoon, but much of the snow should come when most drivers are away from the roads and the effects probably not will be major, they said.

With the snowfall expected to start Wednesday afternoon in the Lansing area, the biggest influence is likely to be slower during the commuter on Wednesday night, Walt Felver said, a form of National Weather Service in Grand Rapids.

“There may be some impacts on Thursday morning, depending on how fast (weather -clearing) herds come out,” Felver said, noting that the snow is likely to be performed before then.

The usual advice on driving in the snow applies, such as giving extra time to get to your destination, leave extra stop distance and drive slower than you would on dry, clear roads, he said.

“It’s not sunny and 70,” he said. “Don’t sludge on the brakes and woven in and out of traffic.”

What to expect from this winter storm

The storm forecast changed only slightly from Monday to Tuesday. A winter storm wall issued Monday was replaced by a winter weather advice on Tuesday. This advice will be in effect from 1 p.m. 13 Wednesday to 7 p.m. 7 Thursday.

The most likely result will be 4 to 6 inch snow in the lansing regionSaid felver.

“Four to eight inches are kind of consensus,” said Deputy Ingham County Emergency Manager Rob Dale on Tuesday afternoon. “Wednesday night -driving may be a little rough; we might have an inch or two at the time.”

But the accumulated snow must be performed when the leading drivers come back on the roads the next morning, he said.

“Then it’s just time for a little clean -up, and we might see a little driving in rural areas on Thursday,” he said. “We expect some closures on Thursday, but we’re talking to schools Wednesday night to see how they are doing.”

Southwest parts of the state could see higher snowfall plots than the Lansing area.

Weather forecasts for the rest of the week

For the most part, the Lansing area should look pretty typical winter weather through the end of this week with heights generally in the mid-20s and low in teens, prognosis said.

Saturday is likely to be the hottest weekday with heights in the low for mid -30s and snow possible, they said.
