Tulsi Gabbard is a Colonel in Army Reserve and a former Democratic congregation from Hawaii. She has taken a sympathetic attitude towards Russia and Syria under the rule of the Assad family. And she has defended Edward Snowden, an intelligence contractor who released classified information in 2013. These attitudes, contrary to the foreign policy establishment in both parties, has made her one of President Trump’s most divisive cabinet -nominated.

Ms. Gabbard faced pointed questions in his confirmation hearing for the Senate Intelligence Committee, including from some Republicans. But she went through the selection along party lines with every Republican to support. Susan Collins from Maine, one of the Republicans who had eventually wobbled decided to vote for Mrs. GabbardAnd said she shared her vision of reducing the size of the intelligence agency.
