Lockdown lifted at Westfield High School after threat on social media

Westfield, NJ-an emergency lock at Westfield High School and Shelter-in-Place at all other Westfield schools has been lifted Wednesday after a threat on social media.

Normal operations and classes have been resumed, the district said at about 1 p.m. 9:20

Around 1 p.m. 8 Wednesday, Westfield informed the Police Department High School of a possible threat made on social media against the building, acting headmaster Bill Loughran said in a letter to the community.

In response, the high school immediately started a lockdown and secured all classrooms, times and external entrances. All other schools in the district implemented procedures of shelter on site while high school remained in Lockdown.

“In no time, any student or staff was in danger,” Loughran said.

“I’m glad to be able to report that the threat is resolved, everyone is safe, and classes have been resumed as usual,” Loughran said.

Loughran continued to thank the Westfield Police Department for their quick answers and support and also to students and staff for their excellent cooperation throughout the lockdown.
