Asheville Mall Sears closes

In 2017, Sears Holdings Corporation sold 265 of its Sears and Kmart stores, including its Asheville location. That same year, an application for re -developing plans for the Sears property in Asheville Mall was submitted to the city, which suggested bringing apartments, retail, restaurants and more to the area.

Sears in Asheville Mall closed his doors too well in July 2018 after 46 years of service.

The redevelopment plan for the previous Sears location was long delayed. But by 2023 the City of Asheville staff confirmed that there was renewed discussions and a revised suggestion to the former Sears site, including 200 housing units on site. Renovation plans for 2025 are currently unknown.
