UNLV football player dies in residence outside the campus because it is not revealed

An UNLV football player has died on campus, a spokesman for the athletic department confirmed on Tuesday.

Clark County Coroner’s Office on Wednesday identified him as 21-year-old Benjamin Christman.

Decisions about the cause and death are still pending. A county spokesman said these decisions could take up to a few months to decide.

In a statement made by the UNLV Athletics Department:

UNLV athletics was informed earlier today of the departure to a student athlete who was a member of the football team at their off-campus residence. This is an extremely difficult day for our athletics department and the university community. Out of respect for the student’s family and pending formal review of relatives from Clark County Coroner’s Office, the university has no further information to share at this time.

The university provides mental health and related support services to the distressed. The cause of death is released by Clark County Coroner’s Office.

Christman was listed as an offensive Lineman, and transferred to UNLV from the University of Kentucky in December. He performed in 12 games last season with wildcats, primarily on special teams.

His hometown was Akron, Ohio, and he went to Revere High School in nearby Richfield.
